Building neighborhood prosperity, one owner at a time.

We're working to close the racial wealth gap by turning renters into rental property owners.

What we do

We develop first-time owners of 2-4 unit buildings

We help current 2-4 unit building owners thrive

How we do it

We Inspire

We demonstrate the wealth-building power of multifamily property ownership and demystify the path towards achieving it.

We Educate

We curate and create the best resources available to owner-occupants and provide hands-on learning experiences to help them succeed.

We Support

We provide coaching and connection to a network of peers and real estate professionals on the journey to ownership and beyond.

Our mission

To advance racial wealth equity by developing and serving 2-4 unit property owner-occupants in communities of color

Who we are

Joey Nakayama, Founder and President
Joey has over a decade of professional and volunteer experience bringing human-centered design into social impact work. His real estate investment journey started in 2012 when he purchased and moved into a three-unit rental property in Chicago. He has since expanded his portfolio to nine units and advised others through the acquisition of their first two- to four-unit properties. He founded Homegrown Impact on the conviction that well-designed and well-supported paths to multifamily property ownership can have outsized effects on generational wealth creation at both the personal and community levels.

Workforce High is a collaboration of like-minded individuals and entities working together to address some of the most serious issues affecting economically distressed communities. It is a workforce development program for disadvantaged young people, built on a foundation of entrepreneurship. Through individual entrepreneurial pursuits, Workforce High students acquire transferable workforce skills which they later apply in our bridge program, apprenticeships, and future employment.
